Our first weekend is in the books, and a 76M opening for The Devil Wears Prada 2 no doubt secures a spot in the final Top 10. Its projected 84M was a bit ambitious, as that assumed a 42M second weekend of Michael. Instead it finished at 54M, cutting slightly into Prada’s earnings. Still, with good reviews and no direct competition either next week or the following, Prada has room to run with the female audience.
No other new release finished above 7M to be mentioned here.

Next Weekend: Three Wide releases coming up and the one that truly matters is Mortal Kombat II, a ‘major’ film in our pool as it was picked by 13 players. As counter-programming to Prada, early tracking for MK2 is in the 40M-50M range, which would make its chances a bit dicey considering all competition this summer.
